I'm Kaylah. thrifting queen. 
Recently I thrifted a charming little two tiered wooden desk organizer. It's vintage and I, of course, had plans to put it up in Circus Bear but when I took it into my craft room to store until I had a chance to photograph it I found THE perfect use for it.
My curiosity shelf was getting out of control and looking a little more than crammed than I'd like where it was but with some careful rearranging, and my new desk organizer it looks better than ever. Seriously, I'm obsessed with it. It's the first thing I notice when I walk in the room and I find myself staring at it multiple times through out the day.
I can't wait to find more goodies to add to it!

Have you ever heard of the artist Mark Dion? He does a lot of work that involves collecting. One of his more famous works is the "Tate Thames Dig" where he got a group of people to collect "trash" from the Thames river and then he displayed it in a Wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities) as if it was a museum piece. Reminds me of your beach collecting.
ReplyDeletePerfect shelf to display your curiosities. Ok, I recognize most of what you have there, but what is that interesting thingy in front of the mushroom? This display reminds me of that show Oddities (everyone knows not to distract Mommy when it comes on... speaking of.. haven't seen it in ages!).

What a collection! I'm so into the little animal skulls. And you're right, the desk organizer is a nice touch to give it a "on purpose" sort of look. Great job!

ReplyDeletevery cool - my brother in law gives us gifts for our birthdays and christmas every year that could definitely be added to you shelf.. this year he gave us a handmade mug, a crystal and a teeny real life alligator head (i think its an alligator- maybe crocodile?)my mister's brother is def a wacko in the gift giving department. last year he gave me a rock from his driveway in a paper bag!
