As I've mentioned about a million times before I love visiting the beach in the winter. It's calm, beautiful and we're almost always the only people there. Because of the strange weather we've been having it hasn't had the chance to freeze and create those amazing ice dunes we found last year but that doesn't mean it didn't leave me in awe yet again.
The waves were pretty intense a few days ago, had been splashing up onto the land and spraying this tree. Everything near the ground was originally standing and had been weighed down by the ice. Pictures don't even begin to do this amazing sight justice!

The last two photos are from a different beach than the rest of the photos. I actually got wind burn on my face the day they were taken. It was so windy we were literally having a hard time standing, it was crazy. It's still amazing to me that the weather here can be such polar opposites, I'm really happy to live in Ohio.

ReplyDeleteSo stunning!
ReplyDeleteI love our lake :)
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely amazing. Florida has beaches, of course, but they never look this awesome.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I tell myself that I would love to live up north and experience all four seasons, I just don't think I could handle winter :p
These are beautiful - I wish I had a beach near enough to me to visit in the winter!

oh my gosh!! I love this! gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful! I wish I lived near the sea. :/
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I appreciate our Great Lakes SO very much. I live a block from my beloved lake Michigan and take advantage of it all the time. It's interesting to me how many people that live on The Great Lakes and have never been to them. I recommend, everybody, no matter how far away you live from them to make the trip, it is TOTALLY worth it, I promise (especially northern Michigan).
ReplyDeleteWow! These photos are incredible! I agree with Elegantly Academic - just like something from the Never Ending Story! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, this is amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteIt has been SUCH a strange winter. The bay in Erie hasn't frozen and usually it's frozen solid between Presque Isle and the city, and there's ice fisherman all over it! I haven't been out to Presque Isle this winter, but I'd imagine we don't have the ice dunes like we normally do :( Such a strange year!

ReplyDeleteThis is too funny. My friend and I live in Ohio and were having a discussion last night about where you lived. I said the west coast. Maybe Washington. She said Ohio.
ReplyDeleteWow... Mother Nature is quite the artist! So beautiful, however feeling the chill and need to make some tea.
ReplyDeleteVisit one of the Great Lakes in the winter is now on my bucket list. So beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are captivating, what a beautiful scene. It looks like something out of a fairytale, like the Ice Queen or Narnia.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Erie & now live about an hour southeast of it. I LOVED going to the beaches for this exact same reason. It is so peaceful & so beautiful. Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteI would've loved spending a day at both beaches taking photos - if it wasn't for the wind!
ReplyDeleteIt's so clever how the ice has formed on the tree too - nature never fails to surprise and amaze me! xx
I sat here literally saying, "Whoooaa. Whoa. Whoa." out loud.
ReplyDeleteThe first three photos are simply magnificent!!
That is really beautiful. Thanks for sharing. That's just one of many reasons why I love living in New England. I love warmer weather but the different seasons are all beautiful in their own right.
ReplyDeletethis. is. AMAZING.
ReplyDeletei remember ONCE when i was a little kid, i woke up and all the trees were frozen like this. and we were driving around, and every single branch on every tree everywhere would glitter in the sunshine. like a sparkly, ice-coated wonderland. i always waited for it to happen again, but it never did. i can't even imagine seeing this on a *beach!* it's like a dream.
These are amazing! Truly.

wow, this looks incredible!! A little like in the netherlands when it gets really really freezing. since the water is quite salty it's rare when the waves actually freeze, but when they do it's beautiful! thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThank you guys so much!! <3
ReplyDeleteYou are so, so lucky. I can't even imagine what it's like to visit a beach with actual snow, and ice!!! Actually one of the things on my bucket list is to visit a beach where there is snow (kind of like the one in eternal sunshine of the spotless mind) ahh someday. I wonder if there are many places in the USA that get snowy beaches, or just a select area (do you live near where that movie was made? ) eek sorry for the long reply.

I love your photos! I was trying to find on your blog where you live in Ohio. I grew up in a little town about 30 miles west of Cleveland. Here's a photo that I posted from around there a few years ago. I loved growing up about 100 yards from the Lake. Now I live in the Arizona desert and am learning to love things about it here, but always miss the change of seasons and all the water. I didn't appreciate all the beauty as much until I didn't have it.
