It's the little things...

like listening to my mom and dad's records from when they were young!
(uhhh, also, I might be addicted to making GIFs...)
A few weeks ago my mom and I ventured up in the attic (which actually means she sent me up with a flash light in that scary, completely dark, spiderwebs thicker than anything you've ever seen filled place) to get her and my dad's old records.

A lot of them have pretty damaged sleeves but everything we've cleaned up works like a charm. They have a lot more clicks and pops than our new records but it's so charming. I love listening to them and imagine my parents listing to them a long time ago.

Hope you're having an awesome day! Today I'm finishing up the owl update for Circus Bear Vintage. It'll go live tomorrow morning. I'm beyond excited. There are so many owl goodies! It's taking all my might to not just post everything today.
xoxo

  3. My mom and dad have an amazing record collection (they actually have that record to^^) I remember growing up with my dad putting on his favorite records on the weekends....They've kind of wandered in to the cellar in to a little shelf were they are collecting dust...I always get some of them out and listen to them while I'm there for a visit. Both of my parents prefer silence now a days....but they still love their records....at least they don't want to give them away because they say there are so many memories stuck to those albums....I just loved it when my dad said that. (I don't know how many times I've begged them to give me some of those records^^)

I recently rescued my great grandma's Stereophonic record player, refurnished it and got it going again. It sounds amazing! I love it so very much!

  6. I am addicted to making GIFs too!!!! It's so much fun. A moving picture is way better than a regular one. Haha. I love your spinning record!! I do the same thing when I listen to records. It's like I'm in a different time and place. I definitely get caught up in the romance of vinyl. :)

  7. As soon as I saw the record playing, I imagined myself listening to old tunes I had used to listen to when I was a little girl. Brings back memories, both within your realm and mine.

  10. That is awesome, one of the main reasons I want to get a new record player is due to my mom & dad's collection.

Have you heard anything negative about the other Crosby player, the mini portable one? I believe you posted it on your wish list for Christmas. I was going to order it this weekend!

  11. Tynee, there were mixed reviews on amazon, but I always take reviews from strangers with a grain of salt. I chose this one over that one because I wanted something larger, it's been nothing but great so I can't imagine the mini one being anything different! :)

  13. Love the awesome GIF! I got lucky one time at a garage sale, and a man was getting rid of all his old records. He had sooo many good classic records (I'm talking Beatles, The Doors, Led Zep) and they were in excellent condition. I was speechless, he was only selling them for .25 each so of course I snatched up all the good ones. Hehe. I bought a Vinyl to MP3 converter JUST to hear those pops and clicks..I love it!

One other thing I wanted to mention...you posted about some Sally Hanson nail stickers a while back...well I was shopping at Michael's and they had the exact same thing, except they were $1.99 each! I bought because it was just too good to pass up, and they were AWESOME! They didn't come off for days, until I had to actually file them off myself. Just a little FYI! Also I found some at Dollar General by my house for $3..I haven't tried them yet, but hoping they're just as good!

  21. My mum had an awesome record collection, but unfortunately they all got stolen when she got broken into years ago. I don't have a record player now, but I plan to have one someday.

  29. My parents have such a great record collection. My dad actually got a new record player a couple years back, and I ended up taking it for myself and locking it up in my room. Records are just so much more fun than listening to an ipod I think

  33. Dear Kaylah,
I've been reading your blog (and I really love it!) for a while and never wrote any comment, but I had to say... Oh my god you like Led Zeppelin! T'is my favorite band!! Really like your tastes ;)

  35. Love it! I find it really interesting to experience things my parents and grandparents did when they were young. One year I made my grandparents books for christmas that asked them lots of questions about their life. Some of the questions were; what was their favourite song, what was the first song they bought and what was 'their song'. I downloaded them all and it was wonderful to listn to them. :)
