(snazzy glasses from tumbleweeds)
I can't even remember when the last time I took a self portrait was. Sure, I (mostly) take all my own outfit photos but it's just not the same. Three years ago each Thursday I would take a self portrait for a group on flickr called Self Portrait Thursday. I kept up with them for a long time then they slowly died out once we moved into our own home. I really miss them, not taking them so much but looking at them later. Watching myself change, little things like my hair length or how it fades, more tattoos peeking out of clothing, etc.More recently I regret not taking them to watch my teeth and mouth change. Pictures of myself pre-braces, to when I got them back in March, to now are all so different. It's amazing how quickly the way I hold my lips has changed. I wish there were more pictures from March, April, and May especially, that's when it seems the biggest changes have happened.
While I don't see myself starting self portrait Thursday again, self portraits are something I'd certainly like to take more of. How about you, when was the last time you took a self portrait? I encourage you to take one today!
xoxo
ps. like my pretty new blue hair?I looove it.

I can't even think of the last time I took a self portrait! It's such a good idea though. I notice changes in myself in photos over time, but self portraits pick up the really subtle transformations.
ReplyDeleteYes, I freaking LOVE your hair! That shade of blue is amazing.

quick question: do your glasses hurt your nose piercings at all? they look like they sit on top..
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it's fun to see how everything slowly change. I just can't keep up with doing a weekly selfportrait so instead I'm doing a monthly selfportrait. It's really interesting to see how much I've changed if I see my photo from January last year. I've got only one photo to go and I finally finished a photo project!
ReplyDeleteAnd not forgot to mention: Your hair is stunning!! I might put that on my "to-do-goal list" for next year.
Anon - nope, the glasses actually sit right behind my piercings. :)
ReplyDeleteDaphinitly, Oooh, a monthly self portrait is a great idea!!
I did the Project 365 when I was really active on Flickr, and I definitely feel the same way you do. It's cool to be able to look back and see how my skin has cleared, how my hair's changed, and how my style has evolved. I used to really hate whenever my grandma would have to take a picture every time I saw here but I now I understand why she does it! It's so much fun to look back in time :)
ReplyDeleteso pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI never like any of the self portraits I do :/ im more confident behind the camera not infront
I've been wondering about this myself - I love the end results of photo-a-day/week/month/year projects but I lose interest in actually doing them myself. Perhaps I should give it another go...
ReplyDeletekaylah, i <3 every color stage i've seen your hair! contemplative self portraits. i hope you post us a link of them, so we too, can see your evolution. my last self portraits were last week.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the things I love most about fashion blogging-- looking back and seeing how you've changed, both physically and emotionally.
ReplyDeleteYour new hair color is divine. :)
Gorgeous shots - and your hair colour is stunning! Loving those specs too!

I had a friend at college who used to take a photo booth strip once a month...now that was cool when they all started to build up.
ReplyDeleteI take a million photos of myself before I find one I can approve of.
I wish I could have blue hair, it is sooo pretty!
i love your hair color right now!
ReplyDeletei rarely take self portraits, and i normally dodge out of photos when i get the chance. i am starting to regret this though, since i traveled europe and have very few photos of me anywhere! =[
seriously! how do you keep your hair in such good condition after dying it all the time!
ReplyDeleteYour hair color is so pretty. I would take more self portraits if I had a less suckish camera and a remote so I didn't have to deal with the 10 second timer.
ReplyDeleteYou look SO pretty :) Love the glasses! :D
ReplyDeleteyou are the cats meeee-ow lady!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your hair! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't take enough self-portraits but I think I'm going to try the 365 challenge. Just afraid I won't complete it or will be too hard on myself.
your blue looks incredbile, love it :) and thanks for this post on self-portraits, I never take the time to do any and regret it later-on. I should really set a day for it and 'force' myself to do them, I know I'll be happy with it in the end. thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love your new hair! It makes me wish I could color mine even more! Your blog is so fun to read, and I love your glasses!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE your hair! Such a gorgeous blue. I was actually thinking about self-portraits the other day; I always have tons of photos of my kids but very few of myself. You should post a tutorial for taking self-photos! I hate how mine come out :(
ReplyDeleteyou look freakin gorgeous. i love the mood projected in these shots.
ReplyDeleteI clicked the link to the Etsy shop and noticed that they only sell sunglasses. Did you take out the lenses and get your prescription in them or...?
ReplyDeleteI haven't taken one in so long. Great idea. xo, rv

In LOVE with those glasses! ^.^
ReplyDeleteI love self portraits. I've been taking a few self portraits here in there in the mix of taking pictures for an outfit post. I guess I haven't taken an actual self-portrait for a while now. Pretty sure I'm going to do it tomorrow! By the way, I love those glasses!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You're so adorable. :D You look TERRIFIC in every color I've seen on your blog. Thank you for sharing such detailed information on bleaching and dying. I told my 14yo that "Yes!" we can dye the underside of her hair for the summer. (The schools here won't allow "unnatural" colors for some inexplicable reason.)
ReplyDeletehey =)
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering what har dye you're using in this picture? Just because it's such a beautiful colour and the exact one that I've been wanting ^_^
Love your blog and your awesome hair tips btw ^_^
