Recently I realized I had a huge lack of glittery shoes in my collection so I took it upon myself to fix this. I took my Explode shoes from Blowfish and made them even more fabulous! It was super simple and doesn't really take that long at all!
you might also need... painters tape to keep the mixture off any parts you don't want painted if you're not a super careful painter, and a q-tip or exacto knife to clean off areas you accidentally got glitter where you don't want it.
1 // Prep your work space and wipe down your shoes! It's best to lay down a piece of newspaper or an old towel so you don't get the glitter mixture on your table. Make sure your shoes are clean and dry before beginning!
2 // Mix up your mod podge and glitter. Pour a small amount of mod podge into your bowl. Don't pour too much or you'll have a hard time making the glitter to mod podge ratio a good one. For both of my shoes it took two little vials of Martha Stewart glitter.
3 // Apply the mixture to your shoes. Make sure to wait until each coat is thoroughly dry before adding another. After the first layer you'll be able to tell if you need to add more glitter to your mixture. My first layer barely covered at all so before coat two I added a bunch more glitter to the mod podge. It took me four coats to get the nice solid glitter look I was aiming for.
4 // Let the last glitter layer dry then add another coat that is just mod podge (no glitter!) to seal it all in.
5 // Rock your new one of a kind shoesies!
So far the shoes are holding up great! I've lost almost no glitter and they don't make a mess everywhere I walk like some store bought glitter shoes I've tried on.

Here are before and after photos of this DIY transformation...
And here is how you can do it yourself!

You will need:
matte mod podge, glitter, a bowl you don't mind possibly ruining, a paint brush and a pair of shoes!you might also need... painters tape to keep the mixture off any parts you don't want painted if you're not a super careful painter, and a q-tip or exacto knife to clean off areas you accidentally got glitter where you don't want it.

*Tip* You can use nail polish to paint the bottom part of the shoe if you'd like to give them a total make over! Two coats completely covered mine and gave it just the look I wanted.
Have fun!!xoxo

ReplyDeleteThis is totally awesome! I have a major lack of glitter in my closet right now. What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteSparkle, Sparkle! So cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering whether it might be a good idea to modge podge my already glittery shoes to stop (or at least slow) all the pretty sparkles from shedding..... hmmmm? You may be my new lifesaver, Kaylah!

Sway, yes! That is a really good idea!!
ReplyDeleteThose are so cool!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look so cute!!! Is Mod Podge quite flexible then when it dries?

ReplyDeleteFun! I think this is a great idea, especially as a makeover for a pair of cute shoes that have unsightly scuffs...I'm going to try it!
ReplyDeleteoh my, I love these!! such a great idea. and it looks so simple! thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI love your shoes! I don't think I could pull off an entire glitter shoe, but I did glitter just the heels of a pair of pumps. I've also done a glitter manicure using clear polish instead of mod podge!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I've been wanting to do this for a while but am waiting for just the right shoes to come along. Great job, I love how yours turned out (:
ReplyDeleteSam
it looks like such a clever way to put glitter on your shoes - unfortunatly i choose the "spray glue on the shoes and then put a huge load of glitter on top of it" version and now everyone can tell where i've been. there's silver glitter everywhere!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'd love to do this to a pair of short ankle boots. ;)

I absolutely love these! They turned out great :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea and so cute! I never thought it would turn out so pretty if you would do it yourself! Thanks Kaylah!
ReplyDeleteValerie, it sounds like you were using to much glitter and not enough mod podge. :)
ReplyDeleteLiz, the tights I thrifted! They had a bunch of them, brand new in the package. I really regret not buying multiple pairs.
chelseybell, you must have missed where I mentioned that they're from Blowfish! ;)
Twinkie Chan, fairly flexible! It probably wouldn't work so well on a pair of shoes that aren't sturdy-ish, like canvas tennis shoes. But it seems to be flexible enough to not crack off of these shoes!
This is awesome. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! My favorite boots aren't in the best condition anymore; this might be just the kind of makeover they need!
ReplyDeletelove! i did it to a pair of heels for a shoot. you'll have to check out the pics and let me know what you think! xo
ReplyDeleteSo neat! And seems easy :)
ReplyDeleteThese are so so cute! I love the green glitter! :)
ReplyDeleteThey look great. I saw a blog that did the same with simple shoes and put stickers on them. The design was Batman (strange on a girls shoe I know).
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I want to do it asap!
ReplyDeleteHow long does it take for them to dry?
