is definitely having the beach all to ourselves. I swear, it's the most under appreciated place anytime other than in the heat of summer. But, I'm not complaining - I love it!! The waves crashing up against the beach is such a calming sound. Each time we get there the sun is just about to set and it really just couldn't be any more beautiful.
xoxo
And chasing seagulls is pretty fun too! ;)
Last time we were there (when these photos were taken) we found at least 25 dead monarch butterflies on the beach. In the fall they migrate south to Mexico, and I guess these guys just didn't make it. We found a few living ones, and even saved a few that were caught under drift wood. It was such an interesting experience. When I searched around online I found a few other people who happened upon the same thing on other beaches of the Great Lakes in previous year but said despite looking again each year they never happened upon the same thing again.xoxo

Aww that's sad about the butterflies. But I guess that's just nature. Weird that people didn't see it twice though...
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous pictures!!! The picture of the monarch on your hand is priceless. So gorgeous! You should totally make a print of that. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm super sad about the dead butterflies. I know, I know, "they are just butterflies." But I'm the girl who has saved ants from drowning, watches my step so I don't land on a snail and generally respects all life. It's so sad they didn't make the journey!!! (Though the picture is hauntingly gorgeous.)
Your photos are so peaceful. I could just close my eyes and image I'm there.
ReplyDeleteThe monarch is so gorgeous. I don't think we have those here.
Love the pictures! I Love the ocean and I can't understand why people only go there in the summertime. If I'd live near the ocean or even a lake, I'd probably be there every day/evening. Even if its cold. The sounds and air are all I need. I love sitting near the ocean and just listening. It's the most soothing thing in the world.
ReplyDeleteThose butterflies are so beautiful. So sad some of them didn't make it :(
xoxoxo

The photo with the one butterfly is really beautiful, you should enter that in a contest or something : )
ReplyDeleteThose are wonderful photos. You make a brilliant point. We enjoy being outside this time of year, but I thought that beaches and such might even be blocked off. But you live in Ohio or somewhere around the Great Lakes, right? So they must not be closed. Hmmn, fun!
ReplyDeleteLauren, some beaches are blocked off at this time of the year. But there are a bunch around here that are open all year round!
ReplyDeletei think ohio must be the best place to live....you guys have the coolest things to do! so sad about the butterflies though :(
ReplyDeleteI love monarchs! They always remind me of home.
ReplyDeletexx.
Awww that is so sad about the butterflies, just part of nature I suppose but it is still sad to so many beautiful creatures dead. I'm glad you managed to rescue some. These photos are lovely, I love chasing birds too xo
ReplyDeleteThose photo's are amazing! And it looks so nice there! So sad about the butterflies :(
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, if you think the Monarch Migration is beautiful, you have to see pictures of my campus. They were there for an extended period of time because of the warmer weather, and they were literally everywhere- it was so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are beautiful and I love the soft atmosphere, especially in the one with the single monarch on your palm (:
ReplyDeleteAs for the butterfly migrating, the butterflies come to a beach here in California (Pismo Beach) each year. I've heard that there are several routes for butterflies to land during their journeys. The journey from north to south lasts several generations, and they sometimes skip locations. I do know that Pismo Beach is one of the few "permanent" locations they are found in the United States, and Mexico has a bunch of these locations. Maybe I'll post a few links to info sites later (:
What a killer day appreciating life and nature, beautiful shots!
ReplyDeletetobik, not all the monarch butterflies in the US migrate to California. Ones in the eastern part of the US go to Mexico.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had such a beautiful beach nearby! we have a little cottage near the beach in the netherlands and I really wish I could get there more often than just twice a year!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI may have to take a trip down to the beach tomorrow and just relax!! It looks so calm + soothing!
I wish we had a nice beach around here, I'd love to walk around it during this time. It's so sad but so amazing you saved some butterflies. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful post for an autumn day!Love your pictures.
ReplyDeletewow these pictures are awesome! i love the picture of the monarch in your hand!

What a shame about the butterflies! Beautiful pictures, though :)
ReplyDeletejajaja funny you running. lovely pics.
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! We love going to the beach year round too, cold or not. I guess it's easier though here in SoCal where they never get snowed on! :) But I've never seen butterflies on the beach!
ReplyDeleteit's very bittersweet isn't it? sad that they didn't make it, but happy that you may have saved some. which proves my belief that humans aren't the only ones with a strong will to endure through hardship.
ReplyDeleteThat's really strange/interesting about the butterflies. p.s. your pictures make me long for the beach
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a swimmer (or sun worshiper, for that matter), so the fall beach looks amazing- so uncluttered and serene! Lovely shots:)
ReplyDeletewow kaylah, some of these photos don't even look real!! you must have a million photo albums to look through (if you print your photos off) you do such a great job at documenting your life. i need to do that more...i used to way more than i do now!
ReplyDeleteProbably my favourite post of yours ever! beautiful picture, I could nearly hear the waves :-) And the monarchs are impressive compared to the size of your palm!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sahring our universe :-) Switzerland loves you!
That picture of you chasing the seagulls was priceless. It made me chuckle. I love your sense of bringing out child-like qualities, definitely inspiring to us all! :]
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the butterflies is hauntingly beautiful. Not that I like dead things, but it is nature in it's realest form and there is some beauty in sadness.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so beautiful! I love the butterflies and the beach photos!
ReplyDeleteOh! Such lovely photos. Looks like a magical day.
ReplyDeleteYes! Most of the butterflies fly to Mexico specifically Michuacan&Guerrero! I've gone to Mexico in the winter and its so beautiful to see all the butterflies <3
ReplyDeletePs- I love your blog! Keep up the great work!
wow, that last picture (although sad) is a great photo!
