Cuckoo clocks! I know I've briefly posted about my collection of cuckoo clocks in the past (before the collection series even started) but I recently acquired two more (back in August, for my birthday!) so I thought I'd do a new post about them with updated photos.
They're so pretty and possibly even one of my favorite collections!
The wall is basically filled but I've always got my eyes peeled at thrift stores, auctions and garage sales for more. For the most part I've quit browsing online because even the ones marked as "for parts only" (which means they don't work or are missing something) are over priced.
The cheapest one in my collection was less than a dollar (it came in a "junk box" from an auction that was filled with tons of other awesome things and only cost one dollar) and the most expensive was $15 so I'm pretty proud of this collection seeing as cuckoo clocks can get pretty pricey! Having thrift patience really pays off sometimes. ;)
Almost all of them in my collection work (except for one which is gutted) but I never wind them. I did once and immediately regretted that decision. They're far too noisy for me! I just like looking at them.
It's hard to pick a favorite but I really love all the smalls ones!
xoxo

I looooove cuckoo clocks! I'm not sure if you heard of Frankenmuth, MI...they have the largest christmas ornament store in the world..and they have what looks like a HUGE cuckoo clock because the whole town is Bavarian themed. No worries...I'll be doing a post about it in November! I looove your collection (like drooling in my pj's)! Hearts, Janna Lynn
ReplyDeleteWhat a special little collection. I especially love the one with the deer head. You`re right they are noisy, my Grandmother lives in Germany and has one too, so I know how it sounds :)
ReplyDeleteLove,
Sara
I saw some Cucokoo clocks recently at a market & thought of you. I love the little colourful ones with hearts ...

That's such a neat collection to have! They're all so pretty and they look great together :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool... they remind me in a way of a dollhouse, I can imagine being a little girl and just staring at them forever. My favorite is the one with the deer and the mushrooms! The scene is just adorable. I'm with you though, I don't think I would wind them. That's a lot of cuckoo's going off at once! Such a lovely collections. :) -- Sea Marie
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little we had a clock that made birds sounds and it annoyed my sister so much that she cut the wires. And when my Mom found out...it wasn't pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love your collection- the clocks are so colorful.
what a beautiful collection- they're so ornate! displayed like that altogether they like a little cuckoo village on your wall :) i bet when you're asleep the little people wake up and visit their tiny neighbours in their houses for tea and cake and the birds fly around making quiet little cuckoos and the deer frolic and the children play on the swings and climb the trees.... maybe?! hehe x
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! I love them so much!
ReplyDeleteTruly awesome.
ReplyDeleteWow. They're just gorgeous! I'd love to own a little colourful cuckoo clock :)

ReplyDeleteI have a cuckoo clock collection wall too! It's in my craftroom b/c the other half doesn't share my enthusiasm for them. But they're awesome and I love them! (Yes! The little ones are toooo cute. :))
ReplyDeleteLovely clocks, I love your collections!
ReplyDeletethese are awesome. I would love to see a video of all of them cuckoo-ing at the same time! I'm sure it would be insane, but also very cool/funny.
ReplyDeleteLove your collection! It's Amazing!! and especially how you have hung them all together. Great impact!! Reminds me so much of my beloved Grandmother. Not sure what happened to the one she had. Wish I had it now.
ReplyDeleteI L.O.V.E. this collection. I want to start looking around for one for my boys' room. My fave of yours is the one with the deer, bird, and mushroom. So cute!

I like cuckoo clocks. I could only ever keep one, because I like all of the noise they make.
ReplyDeleteOooo! LOVE the one with the little mushroom & deers! <3
ReplyDeleteI love cuckoo clocks. I don't know that I'll ever own any because our walls are already kinda full, but they're so fun to look at. It's great how they're always so nature-themed. That's what I like best. :)

My grandma has a fabulous cuckoo clock. I hope one day she will inherit it to me. I love this collection! I also like that you display them closely together instead of spread out around the house.
ReplyDeleteMy Mum has the same exact clock as the one in the 3rd picture! Lovely collection Kaylah. x
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing collection, I've always loved and wanted to collect cuckoo clocks! These are beautiful.

I am sooo envious of your collection. I have one cuckoo clock but would love to have more too. I had hoped to bring something home from Germany but surprisingly I couldn't find anything nice. I had planned to buy you a little one to add to your weather house collection but no luck. I did buy myself a cuckoo clock handbag which you can check out in my last blog post and I've just come up with some bavarian inspired designs for a new brooch range - also featuring a cuckoo clock :o)
ReplyDeleteSometime you'll have to head south to see the cuckoo clock that my Art Club and I have been restoring...The World's Largest Cuckoo Clock!
ReplyDeleteIt's not up yet, but here's a sneak peek:

No fair!!! I only just acquired my first one, cost me AU$25 but I know I'll never find one cheaper here in Aus (unless I'm reallllllllllllllyyyy lucky!) Mine is made of wood with plastic cones and a plastic deer head on top....I'll have to blog it soon!
ReplyDeleteThe ticking noise of clocks makes me really nervous...but those are very pretty!!
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing collection and display of cuckoo clocks! Honestly how do u organize all the pretty things you collect? Maybe a post on Tips to organize and display what u are collecting? =D

those are so pretty! and really colorful too! i used to have a cuckoo clock but mine was just plain black. i didn't know they came in such quirky nice patterns
ReplyDeleteThere is a flea market near me with a vendor that has the most beautiful collection of cuckoo clocks..but they are all super expensive (like, the cheapest that I could find was $75 and it was about the size of your deer-headed one). I would love to own one (or a few) of them though, they're exquisite.
ReplyDeleteThese are all so pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteAh! The one in the last photo looks so tiny. How adorable. I love them all, they're so colorful! :)

So neat! <3
ReplyDeletelove, Love, LOVE! I just inherited one of my father's German cuckoos, and needless to say, I'm totally smitten. I noticed you don't have a lot of the heavier weights hanging on the bigger clocks. Is that on purpose? I've struggled to hang the clock with the weights, so just wondering if you have any tips? Are most of these purely (and prettily!) aesthetic, or do they actually work?
ReplyDeleteI featured a link to this over on my blog today! Hope you don't mind:)

I have the same exact one in the second before last photo! My dad got it from Switzerland, but I'm pretty sure he paid more than $15 for it. :-)
