Spring&Summer

I feel like spring and summer are going too fast. It's almost July which means it's almost my birthday (August 2nd!) then once it hits August it feels like downhill battle from there, like one day you just wake up and it's snowing. Well, that's how my brain processes it at least. :P

I am thoroughly enjoying my nice weather months. We go mushrooms picking at least once a week. Last week we even got in trouble for it. Did you know you need a permit? I sure didn't. Apparently since park land is owned by everyone in the county, they're everyone's mushrooms and the park needs to know how many mushrooms are leaving. (seriously?) The ranger was a real jerk about it, acted like we were committing some heinous act. (95% of them we pick aren't edible anyway...) So now we are working on getting a permit so next time he doesn't make me dump my basket like a child.

Here are some recent pictures from our adventures in the park and at my parents house...
I can't wait to have property of our own to explore, not that I don't love my parent's woods because I most certainly do but it'll be so nice to just go outside and wander around in the woods instead of having to drive a half hour.

Well I've got to run now but I hope you're all having an awesome weekend!
xoxo

  1. Amazing pictures! Sorry to hear that, is there any way you guys could get a permit?
I suppose maybe there are some "endangered mushrooms" and picking them might help their exstinction, but still he could've been nicer.

  2. Yep, like I said, we're working on it. Just trying to find a time when the county office is actually open, they have such silly hours.

There are most definitely no "endangered mushrooms". :P

  3. oh my goodness, is that a snake in your basket? because it looks like one!

  4. Haha ok, I'd never heard of them either, but somehow humans have a way of "endangering" a lot of stuff;) Glad to hear mushrooms are safe though:P

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Silly hours are so annoying, one of the cutest shops in Amsterdam(where I live) just isn't open ever it seems! hope you'll get luckier.

  5. Sarah, sure is. He hung out with us for the hike and then we let him go right where we found him before we left. :)

  7. Great pictures! :)
And I know what you feel like. Here in Finland it feels the same...winter ends by Mid-April and it's snowing again in the beginning of November. May and June are Spring month and there might be a few warm days in July...so basically August to September is Autumn (I LOVE it!)...yeah...and half a year winter ;)

  11. Wow - that snake in the basket one freaked me out a bit! Prob because here in Australia we have a crazy amount of poisonous snakes :) Our house backs onto a beautiful nature reserve, but I can tell you now, there's noway I'm picking up any snakes there! Luckily however, our yard is full of awesome blue tongue lizards - they are so damn cool!

I love those bright yellow mushrooms!! So pretty!
Good luck with the permit! It's gonna be awesome if you come across the same ranger and you can pull out your permit and wave it in his rude face :)

  18. I know you you feel! I can't wait till I own my own land in the forest and can explore, forage, and do whatever I want in it. Every time I want to do that now I have to drive somewhere...ugh. And dontcha just hate mean rangers? Whenever I go out into the forest, I have a green dress I wear that has a pocket saying 'Junior Park Ranger' which I keep loaded up with Smokey the Bear stickers to give away. I think it would be funny if a Ranger were to get mad at me for something and I tried to explain that I love rangers, the forest, ect. Hahaha. my boyfriend's dad even jokes that we should boss people around in the forest since we look like real rangers in our matching green outfits.

  32. it's what kind of shrimp ?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, I think the ranger might have been concerned because mushrooms continue dropping spores for a long time after they've been picked. So, one may spread the specie of fungus to an environment where it doesn't belong. I can't think of any other real reason. Regardless, good luck getting your permit!

Curious, if you aren't eating the mushrooms... What do you do with them? It's a shame to pick a mushroom and do nothing with it...
