The tenth (!!!) collection I'm going to be sharing is my collection of brooches! I like new ones, old ones, big ones, small ones, colorful ones and ones not so colorful, I don't discriminate! ;)
To be honest, I don't really wear them as often I'd like. In high school I had a really bad habit of losing pins and brooches, they would fall off my coat or backpack and I wouldn't notice until it was too late to look for them. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them. I keep them in a little container that I dump out every week or so to dig through. It's the same small rush that digging through a container full of buttons gives me.It's hard to pick favorites because I really do love them all. I try to only buy ones I'm absolutely crazy about so my collection doesn't get too out of control. Here are a few of my absolute favorites;
A replica of a Cochise County (Arizona) sheriffs badge. My dad gave me this a few years ago, he found it in a dollar box he bought at an auction. (My dad loves going to estate auctions and cannot resist buying a box of junk as long as it only costs a dollar. Literally some of the best stuff comes in those boxes that no one else wants!)
And an ugly little caterpillar with a knapsack, also from my dad. There's just something really charming about this little guy.
Of course, my enamel flower brooches are some of my favorites as well. It's kind of hard to find more of these for my collection when I refuse to pay more than $5 per piece. I've found that even thrift stores mark these darn things up.
Anyone else collect brooches?xoxo
I'm Kaylah. thrifting queen.

Ooh, I'm going thrifting today - I may have to check out the brooches! You've inspired me :)
ReplyDeleteBest,
Danielle
Nice collection! I've been trying to hold back and only collect very special pieces, since I don't wear the ones I own enough. I have a lot of these, including the cool video game/anime ones you can find at conventions and comic book shops. I've found some of them while thrifting, I love my Legend of Zelda and Pokemon ones!
ReplyDeleteI never see the beautiful enamel flowers, though!
I love the crane and the sheriffs badge! What an amazing collection you have.
ReplyDeleteoh I love brooches and you have quite a great collection going. My collection is all pretty much assembled into my wedding bouquet.
ReplyDeleteTHE CATERPILLAR HAS A CAT HEAD. Awesome. To the max.
ReplyDeleteAh I WISH I collected them! I honestly look so hard every time I go thrifting (which is A LOT!) and I never seem to find them. I can only find very expensive ones at vintage shops. lame! I need to move to the midwest I think.
ReplyDeleteI have a few but I never wear them I just like how they look. I have a pretty nice collection of hats, I love me some hats!!
ReplyDeleteThese are all so pretty!
Haha I completely understand, I'm always losing pins and brooches. Oh anyway you have beautiful brooches.

ReplyDeleteI love your collection! There are so many great ones. I'd love to start buying broaches.

The caterpillar pin is SO funny. Love that. I don't have a brooch collection but I think you might've inspired me to start one.
ReplyDeleteoh i just LOVE the red bike one :D i am not a brooch collector but i am a pin collector and love to put them on my jean jacket!

In Russia you can buy old KGB and Russian police badges...I bought quite a few while I was there. I bet they would make neat accessories/brooches.
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of brooches too...thanks to my grandfather. He used to work as a doorman at an apartment building for senior citizens. When someone would pass away, family members would often give him things, when cleaning out the apartment. I also have a nice collection of clip-on earrings as well as the kind that screw onto your ear.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of your collection :) Masses of beautiful colours.
ReplyDeleteThey're all so pretty! I love the owl one of course :)
ReplyDeleteThink it's about time I start my own collection. You must live in a real thrifting sweet spot!!!
ReplyDeleteI collect brooches as well...actually, just vintage jewelry in general! Such fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so in love with that Caterpillar brooch! x
ReplyDeleteI do collect them too...I do not have as many as you though. I also like to collect button brooches...have lots of those. I was thinking it would be cool to have a button maker to be able to create my own designs.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great collection you have, thanks for sharing.
I love broaches! I don't where them a lot either, though xx
ReplyDeleteI collect brooches too! I must get them all out and have a little photo shoot of my own...
ReplyDeleteI wore one almost every day in high school and although I tend to only wear them on special occasions now I still really love my collection. I'll have to do a blog post on them soon.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who made her wedding bouqet out of broaches...It looked amazing!
ReplyDeletei love brooches too! there is a great booth at the nashville flea market with trays of vintage brooches and she charges 5 for 20 bucks. i get most of my enamel flowers there.
ReplyDeleteThe second picture caught my eye because I grew up in Cochise County! What a small world. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your share experience with us, I like this post, not only it has taught me a lot, but also let me continuous learning everyday. I will visit your new blog post every day, my dear friend.
ReplyDeleteI collect brooches! My favorite ones are my horse brooch, a brooch with two harlequins on unicycles and my deer brooch! I usually pick them up at thrift stores :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love brooches. Currently have a giveaway from my fav eBay store cause I love them so much! I have a couple of my great-grandmother's ones too, but so scared I'm going to lose them (I'm awefully clumsy too).

I love them too. I don't wear a whole lot, but if I have a pretty neckline and don't want to wear a necklace I will wear a pin. You can also make a fabric wrapped hair clip and just pin different brooches onto it... if you're a hair clip person.
ReplyDeleteThis gal made her flower brooches into a wedding bouquet, so awesome: http://www.flickr.com/photos/newkindofkick/5210073720/
ReplyDeleteI used to but, just like your younger self, I lose them!
ReplyDeleteI collect Floral Brooches.I love the bright colors! I don't have to many yet! I look forward to hunting some more down! I need better pictures of them, but they are packed away right now!

I love brooches! I don't wear them either, though, and I keep meaning to change that. I used to be terrified of losing them, but I've been thinking that I'd rather wear and lose them than not wear them. I don't discriminate in my choices, either! Some of my favorites are my clover ones (i love four leaf clovers), my little Fred Flintstone one, and my little shovel that says "I Dig You" on it.
ReplyDeleteBehold, the ultimate collector of brooches: Madeleine Albright! She has an entire exhibit in the New Orleans Museum of Art!
ReplyDeleteOoops link http://noma.org/pins.html
ReplyDeleteI love brooches too! So far my collection is mostly local handmade pieces and my own felt creations but a girl's got to start somewhere! Accessories are wonderful too! That's probably why two of my six dresser drawers are full of scarves and jewelry and only four of them have clothes...
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen this book? http://www.amazon.com/Blackstocks-Collections-Drawings-Artistic-Savant/dp/1568985797
ReplyDeleteI don't collect pins, but I do collect owls. Your owl pin is beautiful. I also have a bit of an obsession with hair clips.
ReplyDeleteI repurpose brooches and other jewelry into new wearable pieces of art. My favs are the enameled flowers, but you are right they are getting very overpriced! I still find a few once in awhile at thrift stores. (South Dakota hasn't fully caught on yet. lol)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I grew up in Cochise County too! Benson...where are you from Holli?
