I see lots of cheesy "inspirational" pictures all over the internet but this one really struck a chord with me.In high school while everyone was worrying about which college to apply to and buckling down with their work I was asked by a teacher what I wanted to be. I told him I wanted to be a housewife and a mother. That teacher, he laughed at me. He told me it was a ridiculous dream and that I would never be happy.
While I'm not quite doing that...yet, I can't wait to look back and laugh at him about how wrong he was.
That's all. Now...
(both pictures were found on tumblr without credit as to where they originally came from)
I'm Kaylah. thrifting queen.

that's awesome. :]
ReplyDeleteI was totally the same way. ALl my teachers told me that when I was forty I would regret going to university. I just had my first baby in July and I'm a stay at home mom. I love it! I hate when people try to tell you what makes you happy...
ReplyDeleteA housewife and mother is the best job ever!
I LOVE that! And as a Mom of 5... I personally know that there is no more fulfilling job in the world than being a wife & mom. :) (I run my own business, too, but my OTHER "job" is a by far more rewarding!)
ReplyDeleteYou would make the cutest Mom.
good for you!! i've never really had that 'passion' to "be something when i grew up" i too was always just like "i want to be a mum" and i really really do. sure i will work, i'm going back to school for executive office administration but i know that the day i find out i'm pregnant will be the happiest for me.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning! I have Photo Tagged you! And now you are It!

Have a good weekend :)
Housewife-dom is THE BEST! It is embarrassing to admit, but I get SO MUCH satisfaction from cleaning, cooking, sewing, entertaining, etc. At work, people complain to me all day, Mr. ICantPayMyFines always makes me feel complete and happy.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!! Happy Saturday.
ReplyDeleteIt's usually the dreams that get laughed at that come true because we work harder at them to prove everyone else wrong.
ReplyDeletehey thanks for the comment! i remember reading a while ago that you don't usually comment a lot...so thank you :)
ReplyDeletei love that first pic! screw those people that laugh....what do they know? nothing i say!
have a great weekend.
I know exactly what you mean! I dealt with people telling me that being a housewife and not having a career was old fashion. And that having a career is what makes us women independent and strong but they are wrong. I'm completely happy with being a housewife and I know my husband is happy. I have no desire to pursue a career. However if that is what you want to do I think it is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOne time my eye doctor gave me a huge lecture about me not wanting to do anything like that. he said being a housewife would not change the world. I left there pretty angry.
what a horrible teacher! when you have kids you should write him a letter and include a picture of you and your family with big smiles.
ReplyDeletepeople should feel free to choose whatever makes them happy or fulfills them, and no one should laugh at that!
although i do want to have a career, when it comes down to it i've really wanted to be a mom and just take care of my family more than anything.
Love the photo and love the message! Beautiful. Thankfully you didn't pay to much attention to your asshole teacher. Whether someone wants to be a stay at home mom (which when I have kids that's what I would want...it's a great luxury that should be appreciated) or whether someone wants no kids at all and have a big career or even a mix of both, people should never be condescending to others. What matters is truly doing what makes you happy, not the bull you've been told you should be doing that's "success"; hopefully your teacher has learned this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo and quote! As long as you live your life for yourself, and it makes you happy! Then who cares what anyone else says!
ReplyDeleteand the great thing is, you can still run your cute etsy shop after you become a mom like i do! becoming a mom was one of the best decisions i ever made, i couldn't imagine my life otherwise! :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's a wonderful dream! and seeing your blog and some bits of your life, I see you are one happy gal who made the right choices :3
ReplyDeleteAww, this is lovely. Some people will always try to make you fit their mold, even those with good intentions. What I love SO MUCH is that when you follow my heart and you're true to yourself, things tend to work out EXACTLY right. And when they do, the joy radiates from you in such an overwhelming way, that even those people can't help but smile. Nothing is more satisfying! Cheers to you and to following your dreams!
ReplyDeleteA lovely post and lovely comments. I can honestly say I never felt completely fulfilled until I became a mother. I am now a stay-at home mum and all my "when I grow up" dreams have come true. I will end up back in the world of work some day I know it but right now I am doing exactly what I always wanted to do and I love it!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a real gem of a teacher! ;) I think it's cool that you want to be a "domestic engineer" and a stay-at-home mom. And if you ever want to go to college, you can always do it later on. Or not.
ReplyDeleteI went to a high school that crammed that college application stuff down everyone's throats. I did go to college--and have no regrets about it--but looking back I wonder if the guidance counselors at my high school got $$ kickbacks from colleges! LOL.
I went to college for 2 years before I nearly had a nervous breakdown. I loved my first year, had an awesome English teacher, and he ruined me for the rest of it. I left college, married my sweetheart (despite my family telling me to wait), and moved to the Midwest. Still trying to figure out what I'm doing in Kansas... I've been "taking a break" from school for 3 years now - I may go back someday (you know, for the fun of it) but right now I'm focusing on trying to be more creative... hopefully learn how to use my new sewing machine soon.
ReplyDeleteI've probably elaborated a little much, lol. Oops.
If someone tells me I can't or shouldn't do something - that's going to make me want to do it even more.
More power to you! :o)
I loooove that first one. My family "nicely" laughs at me all the time for wanting to be a writer.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I do understand you. When I was at school I got a great score and I could have studied a well paid, "classic" career, but instead I chose fashion design in a private college. My brother couldn't believe my choice, and at my school, teachers wouldn't even look at me. But I am the happiest woman for following my instincts, i've worked since i got out of college and even if what I do doesn't pay as much as many otherjobs (for now), I am very, very happy. So a big booooh to all those who laugh at other people's dreams ;D
ReplyDeleteOh man, I have to say that when I was in high school I used to be really confused by the girls who would say they just wanted to be a mom/wife.
ReplyDeleteBut now I have grown up a bit and I totally know what they mean! There are many different roads to fulfillment and it's all about following your heart. Thanks for sharing some of yours with us in your blog!
I love that quote, great post xx
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that picture, AMEN to that.
ReplyDeletehey chica, i'm changing up my blog layout. can you make me a blog button 200(w)x80(h)? i would love to put your blog button on my blog! thank you lady! (mail.dmoser(at)gmail.com)
ReplyDeletewonderful post. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you guys all understand. After he laughed at me for that I always felt kind of embarrassed telling people what I wanted to be. So I was slightly hesitant to post this.
ReplyDeleteI love you all!! <33
Thank you for sharing that! I am always feeling weird/insubordinate for my strong desire to be a housewife. It's really all I want to put my heart and soul into. I never tell anyone because I fear the same reaction you got, but it gives me confidence to hear that I am not the only one who wants that! I was beginning to feel like I was not for this generation and that I missed my era. So anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your sharing that. It is very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to get to be a housewife and a mom too. I can't imagine anything more fun, fulfilling, and exciting. I'm not there yet either, but hopefully it's not too far off.
ReplyDeleteNowadays most people think it's somehow settling for less if you "end up" being a housewife and mom, as though it's not an amazing job in itself. For being people who are supposed to teach other people things.....teachers sure can be ignorant.
Good on you, seriously. That's awesome that despite the teacher's scorn you continued, after all it's your life and his not understanding your life choices is his problem, not yours. :) It's amazing how 'housewife' 50 years ago was considered a great thing and now it's considered taboo. Fuq the taboo, do whatever the hell you want so long as it makes you happy :)
