Time to answer questions..
Just a note, most of the questions were taken from longer comments, meaning there was more to them than just the question so if some of the answers seem like "why is she even saying that?", that's why! Do you cut your own hair? Most of the time. If I want a completely new hair cut I have a friend (who is a hairdresser) who I go to, but I really haven't had a "new" hair cut in a very long time so I do it. When I do get my hair cut professionally I take a picture of a style similar to what I want that I've found online, in a magazine, or where ever.
How often do you cut your hair? Um, pretty often. At least once a week I can be found in the bathroom trimming my hair. Especially, my bangs, they get trimmed all the time. I never really cut much off, it's just kind of an obsessive thing.
Products I use- I don't have any favorites that I've found to keep my hair bright and shiny. Honestly, I usually just buy what ever shampoo and conditioner smell best. I guess that's kind of weird, everyone expects me to have recommendations for shampoo and conditioner but I don't!
What colour you used in your second-from-left picture? That kind of light lilac?
When you have a color (say hot pink) in your hair, and you want to go a different color, does it take just one bleach application to get the pink out? Depends on the color. Like when I had green hair and I bleached it it was a pale yellow, which was good enough for me to dye over. Pink is THE worst color to get out of your hair. Around two Christmases ago I had faded pink hair which I dye permanent black. After a few weeks I bleached it once and I was left with pink hair again!
But the color that is left after one bleach is what makes all the fun different shades in my hair when I dye it the next color.
How to do to separate colors? To get two separate colors in my hair like the pictures below when dying my hair I separate the pieces I want to be a different color, apply the dye, cover them in foil and then finishing dying the rest of my hair the other color. Easy peasy.
To get the effect in the pictures below I simply added a new color over a similar faded color. It doesn't always work out that great, but it's fun to experiment! How to keep bleached hair in healthy condition, while still straightening and styling- If your hair is breaking off while styling and straightening, it's time to take a break from the bleach, and start doing conditioning treatments. I don't really have any advice since I don't straighten my hair and the only "styling" I do is spraying hairspray. Sorry!
If I only want to dye some of my hair will the colors bleed onto the rest of my hair? I've heard that colors bleed into other colors but I can't say I've ever had that problem ever, or maybe I just don't notice. So, I would say yes just to be safe. Although unless you had really light hair I doubt it would be that noticeable.
How often do you wash your hair? Normally every other day.
How often do you dye your hair? This really varies on the color for me. Some colors fade faster (blue!) than others (orange, green). As soon as my hair starts to fade to a yucky color, I dye it or as soon as my roots get too long for me to stand, I dye it.
And lastly, not hair but....
Do you have a favorite nail polish brand? If so, what? and Do you have a method of painting your nails or do you just spontaneously paint away! I don't. I just buy whatever color strikes my fancy at the time. I guess I just paint away, I don't really think about painting my nails, I just kind of do it. I've been painting my nails on a regular basis for such a long time that it's become second nature, I could almost do it with my eyes closed.
Here are a few of my collection of colors!

Well, that's all. I hope that these two posts about my hair helped and possibly gave a few people the courage to finally dye their hair the color they've been dreaming of!

I love your nail polishes! The orange one looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love that Aqua Claire's nailpolish. I have never tried their nail polish, does it go on well or is it streaky??
ReplyDeleteIt's a little bit streaky, and needs a bunch of coats. But it's sooo pretty once you get it to cover well.
ReplyDeleteso pretty! oh oh i see hot topic nail polish yay!(ive worked for them for 8 years so im partial lol)
ReplyDeletehah, i love hot topic nail polish! it covers so well!
ReplyDeleteI just love your hair, I wish that I had the kind of hair that looked good in other colors, mine is way too curly and I think that I would end up looking like I had a clown wig on! It is just so pretty!!
ReplyDeletexoxo~Meg
I adore your piercings in your dimples. They are so pretty and perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteGreat advice! Last summer I tried to get a friend to dye the bottom layer of my hair hot pink and turquoise in stripes, but it ended up all mixing together and I was left with really awesome shades of purple in between! As it faded out (it's still there, actually! Punky Color and Manic Panic, woo!) it looked like hair a unicorn would have, I think. I love dying my hair unnatural colors! And your hair is always super-adorable! ♥
ReplyDeleteProps to you for always taking the time to give out SOOOooO much info on your hair for everybody asking. Haha. You're so sweet.
ReplyDeleteLove the hair advice and your nail polishes! I got frustrated about painting my nails a while back cause I either A: messed one or two or all of them up after painting them or B: thought they looked like crap and got bummed about it. But lately, for the passed couple months I try to paint my nails a new color every week or two and it really got me better at it, and if they don't look perfect I don't care anymore! I just enjoy all the pretty colors on my fingers as I typa typa at work haha.
ReplyDeleteAs always, thanks for be amazing!
xoxo mando
Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that it's the bleach that scares me. I've been growing my hair out, and I'm so scared I'll fry it all off. It's brown, too, so I'd have to bleach the tar out of it. :(
Oooo, pretty nail polish (and hair, as always)!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was able to paint my own nails. Well, I can paint my left hand just fine (I am right handed), but when it comes to doing the other hand I am a mess. Practice makes perfect I guess, but I really don't want to go around with a hand of messy polish...boo.
I also cut my fringe pretty much everyday, mine is dead straight and HAS to be kept like that!
ReplyDeletethank you very much for your reply to my question!
ReplyDeleteTomorrow I'm going to the hairdresser to bleach my hairs, and then I'll treasure every single word of your dyeing posts.
I also love your nail polish, I'd like to put them, but I bite my nails :(
I absolutly have to stop!
Thank you!
THANKS!! this hair-post are greats!!
ReplyDeleteso helpful!!!
I wanna dye my hair pink or blue.
(but first i have to think about it a little more haha)
thanks again! your blog is one of my favourites!(Though I have to translate)
muak-muak!
Ha, thats how I pick my shampoo/condition too! There's nothing better than wonderful smelling things! :)
ReplyDeletelove all those nail polish colors! jealous!
ReplyDeleteJust finished reading, i bleach my hair quite often and only ever dyed it orange when i dyed the whole of my head so the bleached bit went orange and i loved it... i really want to experiment a bit more but im a tiny bit too scared. :/ I think I need to find myself a new job and then ill do it! :) (sorry for rambling on) x
ReplyDeletep.s i love all your hair colours.
This was so awesome of you to do - I'm betting you've inspired a LOT of people. Good work :)
ReplyDeleteLoved your hair posts but love your blog even more. I currently have two tone (platinum and fuschia) hair and the fuschia tends to bleed into the blonde if I wash it all together. I section my hair off according to color and wash the fuschia with Hair One (a Wen, no sulfite, knock off) and the blonde with regular shampoo and rinse with cold water...luckily I am in So. Cal and our winters are mild otherwise I don't think could do this. The Hair One really keeps the color in much longer then using regular shampoo.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to answer all the questions, I now feel I have a go to place for tips for dying hair gorgeous colours...now I just have to work up the courage to do it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your hair, and you're so cute and pretty! The lilacy colour is my absolute fave!<3
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the effort to dye my hair, but I can't be bothered to try and bleach out 8 years or so of black permanent colour... I just kinda stick to extensions. I'm a hair extension junkie, eeep!xxxx
I just made a promise to myself that I DO NOT dye my hair anymore. But after seeing that picture of your pink-lime hair I just have to get similar. It's so pretty, almost perfect! <3
ReplyDeleteI loved these posts. So informative. Would you consider doing an "all about tattoos" post? Mr. ICantPayMyFines and I are getting new tattoos when we get back from our honeymoon.
ReplyDeleteyour hair is just amazing! makes me want to dye my hair!
ReplyDeleteICantPayMyFines- Sure! What would you like me to cover?
ReplyDeletei am the same way when it comes to cutting my hair! i've been cutting my hair for over a year now, and i do that too, i cut/trim almost every week. just tweaking here and there since i have no clue what the hell i'm doing! it's fun!
ReplyDeleteYour hair is so damn awesome! I will hopefully be dying my hair a fun color for the first time this spring! I can't wait. :D I also pimped out your pretty hair on my blog. Hope that's okay!
ReplyDeleteKaylah, how do you paint your right fingernails? I'm right handed, so my left hand turns out fine, but my right hand is a hot mess! Or are you ambidextrous?
ReplyDeleteI tried your new-colour-added-over-faded-colour-technique and added purple over faded pink and green. It turned out really beautiful! I am very happy with it (: So, thanks! ^^
ReplyDeleteYour hair is so beautiful, in any color really. A month ago mine was bright pink, and I only redyed it to "normal" red cause I got sick and tired with the stains I left everywhere after taking a shover. My color bleeded a lot and I had to redye it once a week. It was hard to maintain for such a lazy person, so I gave up after 1,5 months. Now, when I don't have it anymore, I miss the so bad. Especially after reading these posts...
ReplyDeletei am EXTREMELY scared to dye my hair.i just want to use semi- permanent so that if i dont like it, i wont have to bleach it because that is the one thing that is extremelty scary.my hair is dirty blonde and i was wondering what color would be brightest if i didnt bleach it first.
ReplyDeletethank you so much for your tutorials, they made me a lot less nervous.
Hia !
ReplyDeleteWhat colors did you use for your pink and yellowish hair ?It's so pretty ! ~ Emily
pink and yellow? huh?
ReplyDeleteI went totally out of my comfort zone and dyed my platinum blonde hair red 3 weeks ago. I'd never done something so drastic and I ADORE it! It's not as much work as I expected to keep the color up and I encourage my friends to go bold or go home!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your tips!
Absolutely love your hair! All the colors and the life! It's gorgeous. I've never dyed my hear, just bleached it a little (highlights), nothing much, but I'd really love to dye it like yours in layers or mixtures. I'm a little scared though, because I have really thin hair and if I happen to burn it I really don't want it to break or to look un healthy :S that's my only fear.
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing is what if I get tired of unnatural colors and want to dye it my natural haircolor again? Will it stay a little colorful or will the dye stay?
thanks for the tutorial, it's great :D
You might have answered this and I just haven't found it but I was wondering how long you wait between bleaching your hair and adding color?
